More Poster Designs

After we had a photoshoot (which I modeled in) we got some good pictures of a couple of us playing some instruments, so i decided to take a couple and turn them into posters.

Second Logo Design

After my first logo design wasn't what the client was looking for I decided to create another design based on the fact that Chi Fest is an Art festival as well as music.

Art Movement: German Expressionism

German Expressionism happened somewhen between 1900 and 1930, but during the 1920s in Berlin is where it really peaked. The artists in this movement were influenced by artists like Van Gogh and Edvard Munch.

Work created by German Expressionists had a strong use of colour, but where very distoreded and unrealistic, they were also pretty primative in the way that they looked. The unrealisticness to their work was because the artist painted based on what they were feeling about what was going on around them and what they saw.

There were a couple of things that would have infulenced the artist's work, for example the country was in an economic crisis, as well as the industrial revolution was happening then which meant a lot was changing around these people, the literal landscape was being changed, but what was most likely the bigest influence was the First World War, as this left many of the artists permantly scarred and this was show n through there art and the movement became a kind of bitter protest about what was going on around the artist.

Here is a list of some well known artists in this movement:
  • Max Beckmann
  • Ernst Ludwig Kirchner
  • Wassily Kandinsky
  • Emile Nolde
  • George Grosz
  • Erich Heckle
  • Otto Dix
  • Karl Schmidt-Rotluff
  • Franz Marc
MY PERSONAL RESPONSE

This is a piece that I created as a personal respode to German Expressionism, it is an image of Chichester Cathedral , and by using pastels I gave it a less real look.

The Three Rules of Planning

1.Write a Proposal & Timeline/Cost Out the Work (excel spreadsheet with invoices and costs – list of services and hourly rates) – Set Terms & Conditions – set targets and proposed completion dates/ set confidentiality agreements
2.Communication – Keep in touch – Consultation with client - Team Meetings – Flow Charts of Progress – Keep Records/Database – Present and offer templates and ideas for feedback
3.Research & Investigate – ideas/mood-boards, ethics, copy right – check out the concept has it been used before? What are the sustainability consequences? Will you be eco friendly with your design? Follow the design cycle.
In order for me to achieve these 3 points I would need to discuss with the client on what they want me to do, then after writing my proposal and timline I will then discuss my costs and terms and conditions with the client. In order for me to keep contact with my client I would asked them what means of communication they would prefer and then get there contact deatails, I will most likely do the same with the members of my design team, this way I can update the client as well as know what the rest of my design team have been up to. I would then research inspirations for my work by creating mood boards for each theme that the project is about, I will also look up for eco friendly ideas to go towards my final product, also by doing reasearch I can check if my ideas have already been done or not and avoid copyright infringment, but for this current project I will be communicating with my tutor by showing his my designs for logos/posters and he will be then showing them to the client, and then my tutor will return with feedback for me and then I will improve on it.

Poster Designs Part 1

Here is my first Poster design which i created using a photo of someone in my class who modeled with a bass for us.

I tried it in a variety of colours:

I also used a my first logo design in a different layout which I felt made it look  better.

Information Graphics: What are they?

You see information graphics at least once every day, an information graphic is a pices of graphic design that can give the viewer information on ceratain things, for example a map of a building or school is an information graphic as they can tell you where you are and the other areas of the building, most information graphics use icon/symbols that are easy to understand as it is a quicker way of getting information to the target audience, posters, leaflets and brochures are also information graphics.

I have been researchin the graphic designer John Grimwade who is and expert at creating infromation graphics, his work varies from maps to diagrams and icons.

Logo Experiments Part 1

This is some initial Chi Fest Logo Ideas that I designed, these are the first of many different types of designs, as I will have different inspirations as the project goes on.

My favourite design out of these three has to be the third one as i like how effective the silhouette of the Cathedral is, I will most likely havit as one of my final designs.

Promotion Ideas

This is a spider diagram showing a variety of different ways to promote an event like Chi Fest.

Mood Boards

These are mood boards that I created so that I could then gain so insipration towards my logo and poster designs.

Project Proposal

In this project I will be designing posters, leaflets and flyers for Chi Fest. This project is a re-branding exercise which will help me work on my abilities of creating information graphics.
Information graphics are things like building map that you see around schools/college, museums etc, Instruction papers found in something that requires to be hand-built, for example a desk, posters for events, also leaflets and flyers come under this category, hence why in this project I will be designing some.
The goal is to design a chart/poster that will show all the different events that are going on as well as where to find them, it is sort of like a information finder which will help people interested know what is going on.
Marketing and promotion always starts off with coming up with a plan on what is need to be done and what the client is looking for in my designs, this will then be followed by research to help influence my designs, this means I will be creating mood-boards and looking up different graphic designers as well as different art movements.
I will be starting by re-designing the Chi Fest logo, in order to do this I will need to research different logo designs from music festivals and any other events that are similar to Chi Fest, this will help me get ideas on how to design some eye catching designs for the new logo.
I shall also be showing how I can promote my own art and design by creating posters and flyers for a graphics art exhibition that will be part of the festival. This will take the form of a virtual exhibition online, which will display the work of the group and my group. I will be design web banners and posters to promote the site and investigate methods used for online marketing and promotion.
I will have only three weeks to create my designs which I will then present to my tutor and the festival team.
It will be important for me to create a PowerPoint this will act as a kind of check list which will help me know if I am achieving what I set out to do, I could also use it to help in my final presentation to my tutor and the Festival Team.
Parts of this project I will design with my team. The main part the team will work on designing the information graphic chart/poster.
